5 REASONS TO DO A FIRST LOOK
You have your coordinator, your cousin and heck even your FOH are telling you to do a first look. BUT what the most important thing is, is that you do what is best for you and your partner. We recommend taking your time through each topic and really contemplating whether or not a first look is for you. There is never a right or wrong answer!
First looks at weddings can be a controversial topic, but from our professional perspective: here are 5 reasons you should do a first look.
EASES THE NERVES
Where are my anxious people at? Don’t be shy! Even if you aren’t a super anxious person, i want you to visualize yourselves on your wedding day. Is it possible that you could feel so anxious and all you want to do is see your partner before the ceremony? If so, then this reason should resonate with you. Doing a first look gets ALL of the jitters out, and removes any feelings of wanting to freak the f out. (you know what i’m talking about)
From our perspective: our couples have responded SO well to this reason. 100% of the time when our couples do first looks, they both look at us and say “wow, you were so right. i feel a thousand times better.”
IF YOU CARE ABOUT BEING AT COCKTAIL HOUR
Okay, so this one hits home for us. We didn’t do a first look, and want to know our number regret: not being at cocktail hour.
The food you’ve tasted, the food you’ve paid for and the signature cocktails you’ve perfectly curated: will not be enjoyed if you don’t do a first look. Not to scare you, but this is the #1 deciding factor when our couples are on the fence about the first look. We do always try and make sure to give our couples at least the last ten minutes of cocktail hour to enjoy, but we cannot always guarantee it because of the schedule gone astray.
IT DOES NOT TAKE AWAY FROM SEEING EACH OTHER AT THE CEREMONY
This is the the #1 CONCERN we hear is that they are afraid it will take away from that special moment of seeing each other at the isle. Listen, we’ve been doing weddings since 2009, and we have never seen that AHA moment be taken away. We have still had partners SOB at the end of the isle. Seeing each other, surrounded by your friends and family is a different feeling and vibe, then seeing each other privately.
GIVES YOU THE CHANCE OF EXCHANGING PRIVATE VOWS
You know darn well that a lot of us reach for the CBD when we imagine ourselves reading private vows in front of 150+ people. Doing a first look gives you the chance to read privately made vows. Super special and personal! You can choose to read them BEFORE you see each other, like back to back – or wait until after you’ve seen each other. Then when it comes time for the ceremony you’ve either 1. already read the vows or 2. have pre-made traditional vows to be read.
GUARANTEES BREATHING ROOM WITHIN YOUR WEDDING DAY SCHEDULE
Have you been in a wedding where its go go go go? And you struggle to even catch a breath? Well, a big reason to do a first look is because you get almost all of the photos completed before the ceremony! And you have the ability to choose how many hours before the ceremony you want to begin photos. This gives you more time prior to your ceremony to do all of the must-have photos. And sometimes we even have couples do the family formals prior to the ceremony too. Then, you’re photo free for the rest of the night! (unless if there is a killer sunset … )
I hope that these 5 reasons to do a first look were insightful and helpful!
